Yes, The Bucks Season Was A Failure And People Only Love This 'There's No Failure In Sports' Answer Because It's Giannis Saying It
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills here. A bunch of people praising Giannis for this answer. What are we doing here? First off, you can't compare pro sports to regular ass day jobs. Your job is to win a title. Sometimes there are no promotions to get, you might already have a house for your family. The moment you start comparing basketball players to journalists, teachers, accountants, any other regular ass job, you're going to lose that argument.
Yes, there are varying levels of success in sports. Giannis himself isn't a failure. That'd be fucking stupid to say. But this individual season for the Bucks? Of course it's a failure! They were a 1 seed who lost in 5 and blew a game in horrific fashion at home to try and save their season. Since when isn't that a failure? This isn't some plucky team who got hot late and snuck in the playoffs. This isn't the mid-major who played a 2 seed hard in the NCAA Tournament. This is the Bucks! They were the favorites to win the title.
I know Giannis was hurt in the series. But every team is battling injuries. The Bucks still lost in 5. They still choked away a game last night at home.
The fact is we all love Giannis. He's a great story. He's hard to hate. That's why people love this answer. I mean look at this fake ass LinkedIn motivational quote
A man who spends months calling college basketball coaches failures for not winning a title (except Nate Oats). It's all based on who we like. Sticking to the NBA. Imagine KD or LeBron or someone like that saying this. We'd be mocking them for years to come. It's an insightful answer. It's an answer I'm fine with because Giannis is talking about how he actually feels and not some bullshit canned response.
Again, you can't blindly judge every single team by whether they won a title or not. But for the Bucks? A team who was the 1 seed. A team who we expect to be in the Finals. I don't care if you played a video game character in Jimmy Butler this series. It was get back to the NBA Finals or a failure of the season. It's fine to admit it. They had a good regular season. But that just sets up the postseason. It wasn't a 1-game scenario. It was a best of 7 and they barely showed up.
But come on, to say the Bucks season isn't a failure is insane.
PS: Yeah, Giannis. No doubt in my mind MJ thinks his 9 other NBA seasons were failures
